Go Red For Women names chairwoman

Debbie McCalla will chair the fourth annual Go Red For Women luncheon Feb. 29 at the Marina Inn, it was announced Tuesday by Linda Wadedo Jochims, Siouxland corporate events director for the American Heart Assocation.

McCalla is a graduate of Bishop Gross Catholic High School in Omaha and the Omaha Methodist Hospital School of Nursing. She has worked as a registered nurse in coronary care units in Omaha and Minneapolis and also in the diabetes treatment center at United Hospital in St. Paul, Minn. McCalla received her bachelor of science in nursing degree from Briar Cliff College in 1996.

McCalla has served in several positions with the Woodbury Medical Society Alliance and is president for the 2007-08 term. She has taught body science in the Sioux City Community Schools since 1998 and at Bishop Heelan Catholic Schools since 2001. She also has served in various positions in the Iowa Medical Society Alliance and is currently president for the 2008-09 term. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society and the Portfolio Study Club of the Women's Book Club.

McCalla and her husband, Dr. Ken McCalla, chaired the Diocese of Sioux City Bishop's Dinner in 2002. She is currently a parish nurse at Sacred Heart Church and manages the Public Access Defibrilation Program for the church. She is in her second term on the Pastoral Council. She also has served in many capacities since the unification of the Catholic Schools of Sioux City.

The McCallas live at Dakota Dunes. They have two sons, Cody, 19, and Taylor, 17. The family moved to the Sioux City area in July of 1992.
