Jehovah's Witnesses convene in Sioux City
Posted: Saturday, November 24, 2007
More than 1,000 delegates will attend an annual two-day assembly of Jehovah's Witnesses today and Sunday at the Sioux City Convention Center.
Theme of the assembly will be "Do All Things for God's Glory," based on Apostle Paul's words found at 1 Corinthians 10:31.
Gary Wells from Minneapolis, Minn., will be the main guest speaker. He began his fulltime ministry in 1968 and served for a time at Storm Lake, Iowa. He began serving as a traveling overseer for Jehovah's Witnesses in September 1983.
In his present assignment, Wells serves as a district overseer assisting and encouraging more than 250 congregations in the north central part of the United States. He is accompanied by his wife, Regina, who also serves as a fulltime minister of the gospel.
Wells will develop the theme, "Why Give Glory to God?" at 10 a.m. today.
"People observe the starry heavens at night that give silent testimony to the existence and beauty of God's glory, Wells said. "While the physical heavens cannot consciously give God worship, humans should give Him glory."
The assembly program will run from 9:40 a.m. until 4 p.m. today and from 9:40 a.m. unitl 3:35 p.m. Sunday. The main presentation will be given by Wells at 1:30 p.m. Sunday with the theme "Who Are the People Who Glorify God?"
All assembly sessions are free and open to the public.
