USD men remain unbeaten, 87-67

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Unbeaten South Dakota, ranked seventh in NCAA Division II, made 27 of 42 free throw attempts in the DakotaDome Sunday afternoon in handing NAIA Division II William Penn an 87-67 setback in men's basketball.
The winning Coyotes improved to 5-0 with Eric Hall tallying 21 points, Dylan Grimsley 18 and Tyler Cain 11. Hall also had eight rebounds, while Cain grabbed six rebounds and handed out four assists.
William Penn, getting 18 points, seven assists and four rebounds from Joseph Powell, lost for just the second time in 10 games and had an eight-game winning streak snapped.
Also for Penn, Alta High School grad Luke Letzring, the 6-9 starting center, had four rebounds, but was limited to just one point.
While USD went to the free throw line 42 times, Penn, ranked 23rd in NAIA Division II, converted on just eight of 15 charity tosses.
USD returns to action Riday and Saturday in the CSU-Pueblo Classic in Pueblo, Colo., meeting Regis University Friday at 5 p.m.
