Waldorf wrestlers rally past Briar Cliff

Waldorf College's wrestling team won seven consecutive matches while rallying from a 10-0 deficit to clip Briar Cliff 29-15 at the Newman Flanagan Center Wednesday night.

Briar Cliff 125-pounder Sam Vice opened the match with a 13-0 major decision over Venel Rene. Then, Micah Sheffield, a former Sioux City North wrestling standout, increased the Chargers' lead to 10-0 with a fall in 1:24 over Kyle Glenn.

Waldorf's comeback included pins at the 157 and 174-pound weight classes.

Waylon Goldsmith got a pin at 285 for Briar Cliff, which will compete Saturday at the Simpson Invitational.

John Shrader, 4-2; BCU deducted one point for unsportsmanlike conduct. 174 - Kent Scheff (W) pinned James Shrader, 1:54. 184 - Andre Franco (W) dec. Jordaryl Logan, 7-6. 197 - Jake Head (W) technical fall John Whitmyre, 21-3. 285 - Waylon Goldsmith (BC) pinned Matt Lounsberry, 1:17.
