By supporting the president, we are supporting the troops

CROFTON, Neb. -- I am responding to the Kathleen Parker column headlined “Traveling with the president: Bush reflects on his years in office, his legacy” which was published on Nov. 26.
The war in Iraq will have lasted five years this coming March. Throughout this five-year period the general public has been bombarded with nothing but images of violence and body counts from Iraq. It’s no wonder why we have seen President Bush’s approval ratings plummet as the American people express their ongoing disapproval of the war in Iraq. The majority of the American population has even lost their trust in President Bush’s ability to run this country as a September 2007 poll conducted by CNN indicates that only 36 percent of Americans approve Bush’s performance in office.
Although many of us may not like the decisions President Bush has made concerning the war in Iraq, I believe we need to continue to support him. By supporting President Bush we are ultimately supporting our troops overseas and this is of great importance because these are our loved ones and countrymen. We, as the American people, must look past all of the negative outcomes of this war and try to see the good so our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan know that they have our support. -- Ben Lancaster
