Council deletes proposal to sell riverfront land

By Lynn Zerschling Journal staff writer | Posted: Tuesday, December 04, 2007
SIOUX CITY -- As expected city lawmakers Monday deleted a request from the developers of the Mlr Tym Marina, Bev's on the River and new Hilton Garden hotel to consider selling them the land along the Missouri Riverfront.

Last week the council balked at setting a public hearing for Dec. 31 on the request from Larry and Roger Miller of Midwest Franchise -- Iowa L.L.C. to sell the land for $1 instead of continuing the 100-year lease agreement.

"I came to bury Caesar," Larry Miller told the council. "I think it's probably best not to have it on the agenda."

Miller later said he will leave open the possibility of bringing the issue back if it appears there would be majority of council support for the proposal. Last week, Patty Heagel, community development director, explained the Millers would like to buy the property so they can obtain more favorable financing and to create a real estate trust.
