BALDWIN CITY, Kan. -- Thomas Pargett sparked a second-half rally with 12 points here Monday night to usher unbeaten Morningside to a 69-58 win over Baker University in men's basketball.
Morningside, trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half, but slashed the Baker lead to 35-30 at halftime.
Pargett, a 6-3 senior from Syracuse, Neb., held to five points in an 84-75 Great Plains Atheltic Conference victory over Concordia Sunday afternoon in Sioux City, picked up just five points in the first half and then came up with his big second-half scoring production to finish with 17.
Pargett, who swelled his game total with three three-point buckets, came into the game averaging 14.6 points a game.
The victory was the 10th straight this season for the Mustangs of Coach Jim Sykes, who began a campaign 10-0 for the first time since the 1999-2000 campaign when the school still competed in the NCAA Division II North Central Conference.
That team won just five games the rest of the way, though, and finished 15-10.
Morningside, ranked 25th in NAIA Division II, returns to action Thursday, hosting Dana in conference play.
Baker, coached by Morningside graduate Rick Weaver, lost its eighth straight game after opening the campaign with three wins.
Weaver, who scored nearly 900 points as a Morningside undergraduate, was sending one of his Baker teams against his alma mater for the just the first time in his 23 seasons at the Baldwin City, Kan., school.
Baker's Heart of America Conference entry had three players in double digits led by Aaron Toren with 15 points. Teammates Heath Baird and Andy Hannon chipped in with 13 points each.
Just as they did in Sunday's win over Concordia, Morningside reserves played a big role in the Mustang victory.
Morningside starter played just 15 minutes and went one-for-seven from the field.
The ninth leading scorer in school history was limited to just seven points, but non-starter Shane Michael tallied 10 points in seven minutes, while Mitch Carstens, Brad Helmink, Lee Kubik and Greg Nelson combined for 13 points off the bench.
Nelson played 28 minutes and Helmink 24.
