Mustang matmen turn back DWU, 31-9

MITCHELL, S.D. -- Morningside, ranked 11th in NAIA wrestling, improved its dual meet record to 5-1 here Thursday with a 31-9 victory over 20th-ranked Dakota Wesleyan and a 30-15 win over No. 15 Jamestown College.
Morningside won the final four matches to pull away from DWU, now 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. Morningside improved its GPAC dual record to 2-1.
Weston Frahm (174), Jake Stevenson (184), Cole Wilson (197) and heavyweight Shawn Meyer closed out the win over the Mustangs.
Stevenson, the reigning 184-pound national champ at ranked No. 1, won by technical fall over Blake Hodne, 16-1.
Chris Utesch (125), Jared Pickett (141) and Ben Knight (149) also posted wins for Morningside. Knight pinned Jared Thomas in 1:05 and Wilson pinned Taylor Forsling in 1:50.
Morningside got off to a 21-0 start by winning its first six five bouts against Jamestown. Utesch got a 16-0 technical fall over Brandon Roehrich while 157-pounder Dan Ascherl major-decisioned Chris Harmon, 13-2.
Stevenson pinned Matt Buysse in 4:34.
