Glogowski to take Simpson reins

Posted: Saturday, December 08, 2007
INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Simpson College will officially named University of South Dakota defensive coordinator Jim Glogowski as the Iowa Conference school's head football coach today.

Glowgowski, a four-year starter at strong safety and linebacker for the Coyotes, was named the North Central Conference most valuable defensive back in 1995.

During the just completed season, USD's last in the North Central and at the NCAA Division II level before making the transition to the Football Championship Subdivision (formerly I-AA) next season, the Coyotes ranked second in the conference in total defense.

In 2006, Glowgowski's rushing defense led the NCC and was fifth nationally, allowing only 73.8 yards a game on the ground.

Before joining Coach Ed Meierkort's staff at USD, Glogowski was the defensive coordinator at Division III Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., from 2001-03 and was also an assistant at Clarion (Pa.) and a grad assistant at Augustana.

"Simpson is fortunate to have Jim lead the Simpson football program,'' said John Sirianni, the Simpson athletic director. "Jim is impressve on many levels.

"He brings tremendous enthusiasm and a winning attitude and he also has experience at the NCAA Division II and III levels.''

Glogowski, a native of LaVista, Neb., replaces Jay Niemann, who resigned after a 4-6 2007 season. Niemann's teams were 32-29 in six seasons.
