Mary Ringgenberg does not stand alone

SIOUX CITY -- In a recent Letter to the Editor, a reader wrote in response to an article about a retired schoolteacher who opposes the war and spends her days holding a sign along a road that asks that we "Stop The War."
He implies that this dear lady is alone in her questioning of what we are doing in this war. He also questions if she taught hatred of our United States and war to her students.
Mary Ringgenberg may stand alone on that roadside, but she stands there in her convictions joined by a multitude of other Iowans in the spirit of her message.
I find it interesting that the writer implies that if you hate war, you also hate the U.S.A.
He must be one of those who have changed the words of John Lennon to say
"All we are saying is give war a chance."
I remain, as most of us do, in support of our troops yet totally opposed to war.
I am appalled that someone feels that because we do in fact hate war we are unAmerican. Many of us do in fact feel that what our government is doing in our name is immoral and criminal. We certainly do not deserve to be ridiculed by others who buy into the notion that we do war to create peace. -- Phil Claeys
