Autism workshop rescheduled to April

SIOUX CITY -- A two-day autism spectrum disorder workshop to be held at Northwest Area Education Agency has been rescheduled to April 3-4 from the previous date of Jan. 24 and 25, it was announced Friday. The change was made because of scheduling conflicts.

SIOUX CITY -- A two-day autism spectrum disorder workshop to be held at Northwest Area Education Agency has been rescheduled to April 3-4 from the previous date of Jan. 24 and 25, it was announced Friday. The change was made because of scheduling conflicts.

Dr. Patrick J. Rydell will present the Social Communication, Emotional Regulation and Transactional Support model at the workshop. He is the director for the Rocky Mountain Autism Center in Littleton, Colo., and is the co-author of the SCERTS model.

The SCERTS model is a comprehensive educational approach and multidisciplinary framework and guide to directly address the core challenges faced by children with autism spectrum disorders and related disabilities, and their families.

The workshop is designed for educators, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, paraprofessionals/teacher aides, resource coordinators and early intervention and Part C providers.

The workshop is sponsored by the Rocky Mountain Autism Center. One graduate credit is available through Adams State College and applications will be provided at the workshop. Cost for the conference is $200 for both days or $300 for the two-day conference and a SCERTS manual.
