Assumption about single parents not always correct
Posted: Sunday, December 30, 2007
SERGEANT BLUFF -- In one of his many commercial ads Mitt Romney has stated his “beliefs” on marriage, which to me have struck a nerve. He states that marriage needs to come before children. In order for a child to succeed, he/she needs a father and a mother in the home. What? I’m sorry, but I was a single mother to my now 10-year-old daughter and yet she is a straight-A student, plays in the band, plays soccer and is an all-around polite and well-mannered child, all this after being raised by a single mother for seven years of her life.
So I say to Mitt, where is your proof coming from? Are there any statistics to prove this? I get angry when some average “Joe” says those exact words but to hear it from a possible presidential candidate just pushed me over the edge. I’m tired of people believing that all children of single parents are never going to amount to anything. My daughter is proof that this assumption is not always correct. -- Kari Berge
