Girl Scout Cookies go on sale Jan. 11

Posted: Saturday, January 05, 2008
Girl Scouts will begin selling Girl Scout cookies Jan. 11 and continue selling the special treats through Feb.3. The cookies will be delivered March 8 through 23.

All varieties of Girl Scout cookies are now "zero trans fat per serving" in compliance with Federal Drug Administration regulations.

The change was made because, like most successful businesswomen, Girl Scouts listen to their customers. Each box of cookies will sell for $3.50. Of that amount, $2.65 stays within the Girl Scout of Greater Iowa jurisdiction.

There is one new kind of cookie available this year along with seven returning favorites. Cinna-Spins are crispy oatmeal rounds with a cinnamon burst in every bite.

The seven returning favorites are Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Shortbread, Thin Mints, Peanut Butter Sandwich, Thanks-A-Lot and Lemonades.

Since 1917, the Girl Scout Cookie Program has become a famous annual event that has helped girls develop important leadership skills they will use throughout their lives.

Through the Girl Scout Cookie Program, girls manage inventory, set goals, learn money management and develop marketing skills. The entire troop sets a goal and follows a plan leading toward that goal.

Girl Scout troops use funds raised by the sale of cookies to fund a service project or to plan for a trip. More than 70 percent of the money raised stays in Iowa, directly benefiting Girl Scouts in Iowa communities.

Most cookies are sold door-to-door, in public areas or by telephone. If a Girl Scout does not contact you, call Girls Scouts of Greater Iowa at (515) 278-2881 or 800-342-8389.

" then maybe all of you daughters troops or troop leader sucks because i am a girl scout and as a troop we actually do fundraisers and activities to earn money that way my parents hardly pay a dime and we get all lot back from the council and dont you go around thinking i dont know anything because i am just a kid. you all are just stupid. "

" Our girls gets $.50 per box plus incentives. And we have sold as a troop over 4700 boxes. All the profits goes directly to OUR troop. And we pay as a troop all the expenses and the cost of all activities for the girls in our troops. The parents pay nothing. don't let one bad area deter you from buying cookies. Plus our girls are completely happy with their incentives. And the parents would rather sell cookies than to dish out the money from their own wallets to pay for everything we do which is alot. "

" Who had the bright idea of selling Girl Scout Cookies in Iowa in January??? Let the GSA adminstrators go door to door in wind chill driving temps to Zero Degrees or less and I'll bet our little girls would start selling them in late September or in the first weeks of April! "

" Comment continued.... So where is it that makes .50 cents per box of cookies?? I might have to travel there to get my cookies... but how much does the council get?? Does "your" council keep you informed?? Does it have "Two-faced" neighborhood membership specialists?? I have seen the membership specialist for my daughter's neighborhood "pick" their (girls') ideas apart til they don't want to do them... But yet their ideas were Great!! She always came up with an idea/reason why they shouldn't do their activity. The girls finally got so fed up that only 1 of them are now in scouts from a troop of 8. I thought Girl Scouts was to teach and support the ideas of Girls to become better leaders.... And how do they do that when someone is always finding negative in their activities and forgets the positive?? "
