Tight parking predicted

SIOUX CITY -- Parking could be tight for the estimated 4,000 people who will attend this weekend's RV Central show at the Sioux City Convention Center.
Today is expected to be the busiest day for the show, said Spero Vlahoulis, project manager. But construction of an underground garage and surface parking lot for the Pierce warehouse project has taken away much of the Convention Center's parking space.
Because of this, Promenade moviegoers and other shoppers will be directed to park in the Discovery Ramp at Fifth and Jones streets. Motorists, who can park there for free from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Mondays through Fridays, can also park there for free on the weekends.
Attendees of the RV show will be able to park in the lots near the Convention Center.
Signs are also posted explaining when parking in the convention center lot is prohibited. There will also be parking attendants at the event to help motorists find where to park, Vlahoulis said.
The show will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Vlahoulis said this system may be used for upcoming weekend events including a motorcycle show and a bridal fair.
