A seminar, "Healthy Eating -- Healthy Year," will be presented at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.
The free program is geared to persons who are current or past recipients of cancer treatment. Cindy McClary, the Nylen Center's registered dietitian and herbalist, will address the latest research in nutrition on cancer survivorship, such as recommendations for vitamin D, fish oil and organic foods.
The cancer center dietitian also will discuss foods to avoid such as nitrates, antibiotics and hormones in foods which may increase a person's chances of surviving cancer. Free individualized nutrition consultations also will be available for those attending seminar.
The nutrition seminar is the first in a series of seminars planned for nearly every month of the year at the cancer center.
Other upcoming seminars will be "Lymphedema: What is it and Who Can Get It," at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 26 with Mary Hendriks, physical therapist of Mercy Medical Center, and "So I've Had Cancer: What's Next?" at 5:30 p.m. March 25 with Brenda Winkler, patient navigator at the cancer center.
Appetizers and refreshments will be served. Pre-register at the cancer center, (712) 252-0088.
