A second person is being held as a material witness in connection with the slaying of a Sioux City man whose body was found last week near Lawton, Iowa.
Nicolas Daniel Perez, 20, of Sioux City, was present at the time Zachary Cooper was shot and killed on Jan. 15, according to papers filed in Woodbury County District Court.
Perez was arrested two days later on unrelated drug charges.
According to complaint and affidavits filed in the case, Cooper, 23, had gone to an apartment at 710 18th St. when he was robbed at gunpoint and beaten by Jeremy Williams. Williams then forced Cooper into his car and Williams, along with Perez, Ray Dukes and Samuel Wright drove him to a location a mile southeast of Lawton.
According to court documents, Williams and Wright each shot Cooper, who was shot multiple times.
Williams, 24, and Wright, 31, both of Sioux City, have been arrested on charges of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and first-degree robbery.
Dukes, 22, is being held as a material witness.
