Dordt faculty exhibit art work at Morningside

Posted: Thursday, January 31, 2008
SIOUX CITY -- An exhibit of art works produced by members of the art department faculty at Dordt College will be on display in Morningside College’s Eppley Auditorium gallery, 3625 Garretson Ave., from Saturday until Feb. 28.

A reception for the artists will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 7 in the gallery.

The display by the Dordt artists is part of an exchange program between the two college’s art faculties. A collection of a variety of media from Morningside’s art faculty was on display earlier at Dordt.

The concept of a faculty exchange developed when Jacob Van Wyk, professor of art and chair of the art department at Dordt, and John Bowitz, professor of art and chair of the art department at Morningside, curated a collection of works from Morningside’s Levitt Art Collection which was displayed at Dordt this last fall.

February’s display will include work from Van Wyk’s recent sabbatical study including free standing clay sculpture in porcelain and stoneware, wall tile and lithography.

Other featured artists from Dordt’s faculty will include:

David Versluis, professor of art, with a series of prints entitled "Spirit Lake Iowa; Fish Suite, Number 8."

Peter Sheesley, instructor of art, with an exhibit of oil paintings from three different series he created in 2007.

Doug Burg, professional photographer and adjunct faculty member, with a display of recent work in photo and photo montage.

JoAnne Alberda, emeritus faculty, with a display of recent cloth works in abstract design using machine piecing and discharged, dyed cloth.
