RANDOLPH, Neb. -- Michael Schumacher has been named economic development director of this small northeast Nebraska city.
Schumacher, originally from nearby Crofton, Neb., recently moved back to the area after six years in Rapid City, SD.
Randolph Mayor Neil Kluver said Schumacher knows the needs of small towns. Randolph, in Cedar County, has a population of around 900.
Schumacher's background includes service on the Rapid City Council and as a field representative for the National Federation of Independent Business.
Schumacher said some of the first things he wants to tackle are infrastructure updates, a ''shop locally'' campaign, revival of the city's "Honey Fest'' celebration and "Randolph Roots,'' a reach out to graduates of Randolph High School.
Schumacher said that any thoughts, ideas, and assistance are welcome. He can be reached at Randolph City Hall at (402) 337-0142.
He and his wife, Laura, have a 4-year-old daughter, Leila.
