Immediate action needed on Highway 20

Posted: Sunday, February 24, 2008
HORNICK, Iowa -- I sincerely hope that Gov. Culver is serious about being a big backer of finishing the four-laning of Highway 20. Surely he can, and will, put those words into immediate action.

If there is a will, there is a way. Nothing is impossible. It appears that a number of other interest groups are able to get finances or grants, both small and large. Why not Highway 20? Does revenue all have to come from DOT?

" I think there are PLENTY of people who would appreciate and USE a four-lane highway 20! "

" no 4 lane -- Must be from the east side of the state. The reason traffic is "Minamal" as you call it is that no one wants to drive a 2 lane highway. Build it and they will come. I would venture a guess that part of the reason Sioux City has not grown much over the last 40 years is because this road was never finished. "

" hiway 20 4 lane project is a joke. No one wants to travel that road as an interstate type road. There are 2 interstates about 110 miles apart that are set up with rest stops etc. The traffic on this road is minamal. Build it, and they will come, is a false statement. A waste of money. The small towns that already have 20, that will by by-passed under the propsal will suffer revune loss. A waste of tax money. "

" I wouldn't expect much from Gov. Culver, Becky. He is all talk, just like his father. "

" Culver is a big backer all right, he loves to raise taxes and that is exactly what you're going to get, a tax increase of some sort. This could have been accomplished years ago for a lot less money. "
