Remember true reason for Easter

Posted: Sunday, March 02, 2008
ALCESTER, S.D. -- I don't remember any thanks this year for Thanksgiving Day. It was only Happy Turkey Day. (I'm sure not very many turkeys were happy.) For Christmas there were no Christmas carols or much of anything else pertaining to the birth of Jesus Christ. Only how much money you could spend for things, stuff, gadgets, that a person doesn't really need or six months later doesn't want.

I, for one, am sick and tired of atheists telling me I cannot worship God as we and our forefathers have always done since the foundation of this nation. America was founded on freedom of religion, not from religion.

Atheists or nonbelievers do not want anyone telling them that there is a God. If they do not want to listen, that is their choice. They do not have too. But neither do they have the right to tell us we cannot pray or worship as we choose. They always have a choice of moving to a Communist country where they are forbidden to mention God.

With Easter coming up before long this holiday is not about eggs, rabbits, chickens and money but that Jesus Christ died for our sins and rose again after paying our debt to God.

Matthew 6:24 and Luke 16:14 says no man can serve two masters for he will hate the one and love the other or else he will hold to the one and despise the other. -- Marjorie St. Peter

" Atheist, Why don't you just take a PTO day? "

" Annie, your (uneducated) post just demonstrates that the only acceptable bigotry is anti-Christian bigotry. "

" Annie, you have probably seen hypocrisy in Christians and that may be the basis for your remark. I have some news for you - Christians are not perfect. When I look truthfully at my own heart I see hypocrisy that exists there. It exists in everyones heart. But am I going to leave my church and the Christian faith because people are not perfect? Absolutely not. The beautiful message of the gospel is that it offers hope and redemption to unworthy sinners who can in no way save themselves. "

" I don't believe that I have ever told you how or how not to pray to Allah. I could not tell you how many times I have been told where to go if I don't like religion being pushed down my throat and where I will go if I don't pray to Allah.

Practice what you preach. I will not push my lack of belief upon you and you keep your cult to yourself.

I would say you were probably brainwashed by organized religion/cults since you were a child.

I only wish they would hold Easter on a Monday as I would love another day off from work. "

" In my opinion, the only groups who have earned the right to call themselves "christian" are people like the Mennonites and the Society of Friends. They act like christians without trying to make anyone else accept it forcibly. They behave the way other christians are supposed to and don't. Typical christians only accept whatever verses suit their current agenda, and they spend a lot of time and effort in trying to proselytize to everyone else. Considering that they claim that 80% of the nation is christian, I wonder who exactly they're trying to convert.

Maybe it's a hopeful sign that "christians" or more accurately the moral majority have become their own worst enemy. Between them and the bible, they're driving people away in droves with their words and their behavior. I hope that Marjorie keeps it up, because she's helping to demonstrate what christianity is really all about, bullying and judgment. If that doesn't win a few people away from the church, I'll be surprised. "
