Questions about Obama

Posted: Tuesday, March 04, 2008
SIOUX CITY -- Are people so desperate and gullible that they will believe anything?

I must admit that "mesmeric" Barack Obama, the skilled motivational speaker, is more convincing than counterparts such as Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

But based on his inclination to merely vote "present" when faced with tough issues while serving in the Illinois Legislature, I do wonder about the quality of his character and temperament. -- Joyce Hiser

" I said years ago that the U.S. would surrender to Islam and here comes their muslim president.

Oh sure, he says he is a Christian but look behind the veil and you see he is one in disguise.

But I never feared Islamic extremist and any thinking person should fear the people of sueland because they are in proximity and they DRIVE! "

" It wasn't her questioning of his political background, athena, that prompted people to wonder about her prejudices. It was Joyce's curious conflation of Obama with two men (with politically charged associations) who have seemingly little in common with Obama besides their skin color and role as public figures (when other comparisons would have been more apt). "

" It's amazing how the Obama apostles easily call people racist when they question Obama's qualifications. Obama supporters have to get personal because they can't defend his positions since the positions are so superficial. Joyce, you are not a racist for questioning Obama's qualifications. You have a First Amendment right, and an obligation, to question any politician running for office-and Obama is just a politician running for office. Don't let anyone intimidate you into stop questioning a politician or calling you a racist. "

" I didn't find jh's comments racist in the least. As a history major, with minors in poli sci and african american studies I believe it is quite natural for informed people to make comparisons between obama, jesse, and al as all three are african american men who have had a civil rights background and sought the democratic presidential nomination.

I believe the three premises cited in her argument have been rebuked already. "
