'Heartless, valueless' education system

Posted: Sunday, March 16, 2008
SIOUX CITY -- Did you know that on April 25, public schools across the nation will be taking part in the Day of Silence (DOS) which is sponsored by an activist homosexual group, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network?

Schools have outlawed student-led prayers in school but by all means bring in destructive value systems such as the homosexual lifestyle and call it normal. The schools cannot dispense an aspirin without permission but they can refer a girl for an abortion which affects that child’s life forever. The students are being taught that homosexuality is a worthy lifestyle with few to no risks.. We are reaping the results of a heartless, valueless education system which seeks to destroy the souls of our students at the altar of freedom of choice.

Next, Gov. Culver plans to reject federal funding for abstinence-only sex education programs. They are overspending yet the governor looks a gift horse in the mouth and rejects those dollars that are tied to values that respect the individual and promote abstinence until marriage. Hmm. What is wrong with this picture?

According to the Heritage Foundation, nine out of 10 parents want schools to teach abstinence. The public schools are subsidizing Planned Parenthood through the sex education curriculum which they purchase. What happens to a society that devalues life? Ask Rome. -- Linda Holub

" It really does not matter. None of the local schools would have participated in such a foolish event as this. They do not even have school that day and if they would have, how hard is it to tell your child they have a day off of school?Homosexuality is WRONG no matter how it is sugar-coated! "

" MaRK, oops--must have plugged your name in by mistake in the Name box when I posted about "teaching students to be reproductive...." Sorry. "

" Did you mean teaching students to be reproductive [future] citizens? Discussing birth control isn't like talking about the internal combustion engine. A teenager will want to know what it feels like... "

" The school system just teaches facts that may or may not have anything to do with religion. It's a question of which facts to teach, whether those facts are abstinance or birth control. What system is best going to give students the knowledge they need to be productive citizens? "

" I would like to say that being 22 and a young mother myself I do not believe that abstinence only education is worth the cost. Yes, I believe that they should be practicing abstinence but what happens when things go over that "line"? I also believe that our children should be taught earlier. Obviously with some 12-13-14 year old mothers out there, I can't be the only one that thinks that is too young. If we taught them earlier maybe it would decrease that. I heard of a program implemented where upperclassmen are teaching underclassmen about abstinence and about birth control methods in highschool. I think that is a great idea. I would have listened better and taken things more seriously if it were one of my peers. I hope this is implemented all over. "
