Laugh Your Hat Off "Fun" raiser set April 1

Posted: Wednesday, March 19, 2008
SERGEANT BLUFF -- The fourth annual Laugh Your Hat Off Dinner and "Fun" Raiser will be Tuesday, April 1, at the Bluffs Area Family Center in Sergeant Bluff. The event will benefit the Community Action Agency’s Crossroads Shelter for Homeless Women and Children.

The event will include a luncheon and silly awards program honoring members of area Red Hat Societies. A "Queen of Everything" will be crowned in a special ceremony. In addition, there will be door prizes, raffles, a silent auction and shopping.

Vendors will sell their specialty items from 5 to 6:30 p.m.; the dinner will begin at 6 p.m. with the awards program to follow.

"What a great opportunity for women, not just Red Hat members, but all women to come together, share some laughs and support a great cause," said Alice Mollet, Crossroads case manager.

The Crossroads Shelter provides transitional long-term housing and support services for women struggling to become independent. Many of these women come from situations involving domestic violence. Many are recovering from substance abuse. Many are looking for housing for their children. But all of them are at a crossroads in their lives.

Nominations for the silly awards are currently being accepted. The award categories include:

"Crimson Camera" for those "Candid Camera" moments; "Little Red Corvette" for the most hilarious car story; "Pink Panther" for the best pet hi-jinx story; "Purple People Eater" for the craziest diet/fitness program; "Red Roof Inn" for the craziest motel experience; "Red Hot Mama/Grandma" for the best child or grandchild story; "Mauve Medical" for a comical medical story; "Little Red Hen" best bargain hat or outfit; "Hair Raising" for the best hair story;

"Queen of Everything" for the wildest and craziest Red Hat woman.

Call Alice Mollet at (712) 293-0283 for nomination forms or tickets. Tickets are $25 and need to be purchased by March 28.
