Posted: Thursday, March 20, 2008
Two of the most productive players in Northwestern College men's basketball history, Chad Schuiteman and Curt Schilling, collected first- and second-team honors, respectively, on the NAIA Division II All-America team released Wednesday.

The Red Raider duo, who each topped the 2,000-point mark, played for a squad that reached the semifinals of the national tournament. Morningside College, which advanced to the second round of the tournament, is represented by second-teamer Jack Rother.

Schuiteman made the first team for the third straight year. The 6-6 senior from Sioux Center finished his career with 2,208 points. A first-team GPAC selection, he averaged 19 points and 11.5 points in the tournament at Point Lookout, Mo. as the Red Raiders of Coach Kris Korver reached the Final Four for the second straight year.

Schuiteman finished the season averaging 15.2 points and 11.3 rebounds for Northwestern, which posted a 30-5 record. He shot 53.9 percent and also led the team in assists (143) and steals (63).

Schilling scored 2,089 career points and won the GPAC scoring title with a 19.7 average. The 6-4 senior guard from Ellsworth, Minn., averaged 19.1 points and led the GPAC Tournament champions with 90 three-point baskets and an 89.3 free throw shooting percentage (126 of 141).

Rother, a 6-3 senior guard from Wolbach, Neb., was Morningside's leading scorer with a 13.5 scoring average. The Mustangs of Coach Jim Sykes were ranked first in the country for six weeks and won the GPAC regular-season title.

Named the GPAC's defensive player of the year, Rother averaged 15.6 points in the Mustangs' final 16 games. He scored 35 points and grabbed 17 rebounds at Point Lookout for a squad that finished 29-4.
