East's Larson, McCarthy make Academic All-State

Seniors Dane Larson and Courtney McCarthy of Sioux City East have been named to the Iowa Basketball Coaches Assocation's Academic All-State Basketball Team.

Larson, is one of 22 boys, statewide, on the squad. Fellow Northwest Iowans Zachary Drees (Clay Central-Everly), Andrew Pringnitz (Spirit Lake) and Andy Rowlands (Ruthven-Ayrshire) also made the team.

The boys have an average ACT composite of 29.9 and a 3.99 grade point average. Twelve of the selections are ranked first in their respective senior classes and the team has a scoring average of 16.8 points per player.

McCarthy is among 25 girls on the team. Spirit Lake's Kaisha Brown is on the squad along with Northwest Iowans Shelby Johnson (Akron-Westfield), Katelyn Jones (Okoboji) and Whitney Waechter (Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn).

The girls have an average ACT composite of 28.3 and a 3.99 grade point average. Seventeen of the selections are ranked either first or second in their respective senior classes and the team has a scoring average of 15 points per player.
