Police release names in pit-bull attack

Posted: Saturday, March 29, 2008
SIOUX CITY -- Police have released the names of those involved in a Thursday evening pit bull attack that ended when a Sioux City police officer shot the dogs.

A neighborhood resident called police to the 500 block of South College Street after she witnessed two pit bulls biting a man who was walking his dog.

Sioux City police Lt. Marti Reilly said Kelly Langwell of Sioux City owned the two pit bulls, which had escaped earlier that day from their home. Langwell was cited for two misdemeanor violations of allowing a dog to run at large.

On Thursday, police did not release her name or that of the victim, Clark Tibboel.

Tibboel sought his own medical treatment after the attack.

" Dear Josh, I agree 100% with you! If it was Any other dog breed it wouldent be an issue! We had a lab that bit our 3 year old son, and when we were telling people about it the first thing they said was "was it that Pittbull that you have"! And then acted shocked when we said no... it was the lab. So people need not to be so quick to judge ALL pitts! "

" i have been on the end of being frightened to death by a pack of dogs. i was walking my 100 lb. german shepherd and i was in an area where there was nowhere to run. 3 big dogs saw mine and bounded for us. i picked up a stick and tried to hold my dog back at the same time. i know he would have been injured or killed. i stood there waiting and the lead dog stopped for about a minute. i prayed. when he left, the others went with him. it was a rottweiler. i don't think i've ever been so scared. i don't really know what i would have done if they had attacked us. but, if i had had a gun and they did attack, i would have used it to kill. not maim. " Concerned mother with respect a wounded animal if not stopped is more vicious than an the animal that isn't. Now that is a good thought shoot and wound the animal. Lets look at the facts if that animal has anything left in it after being shot it will defend itself. The officer did exactly what was needed and put them down. If they had captured them after this the second fact is the dogs had already attacked someone, the dogs had already caused injury on a human, and they injured the mans dog. The fate would've been the same if captured alive they would have been put down and deamed a vicous animal. Now this man has had vet bills for his dog and I know for a fact doctor bills (tetnus shots antibiotics). Would you haved liked to be on the receiving end. "

" Pet owners have to be held resposible. This was assault, and the owners need to be charged with the actions of their pets if we expect them to be responsible for them. I have called Animal Control before about huge dogs running loose in my neighborhood, and they say unless they attack someone they won't do anything. As if I'd go outside and wait and see if they're vicious first! "

" I agree the dogs needed to be stopped, however; they didn't need to be killed. The officer could of shot so the wound wasn't fatel. These animals could of been the pet of some kid now their family pet is gone thats sad. "
