Wayne State College will host Writers Fiesta

WAYNE, Neb. -- Wayne State College's School of Arts and Humanities and WSC Press will host the Plains Writers Fiesta from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. April 10 in Ley Theater on the second floor of the Education Building.

The free, public event will consist of readings by authors from the Great Plains area, an art exhibit, and music performances throughout the day.
The first reading will begin at 9:30 a.m. featuring Max McElwain of Wayne, author of "The Only Dance in Iowa," a history of six-girl basketball in Iowa, and David Bristow of Norfolk, author of "A Dirty Wicked Town," a history of frontier Omaha.
The second reading will be at 11 a.m. and feature Anna Monardo of Omaha, author of "Falling in Love with Natassia," and Ed Allen of Vermillion, S.D., author of "Mustang Sally."
The final reading will be at 2 p.m. featuring keynote speaker Linda Hasselstrom of Hermosa, S.D., with her presentation titled "The Commonplace I Sing."
Following the Fiesta, at 7 p.m., will be Poetry Slam XIX, held at the Max Bar and Grill in downtown Wayne. Those who wish to compete should be at the Max by 6:30 p.m. with four original poems and a $5 entry fee. The Slam provides cash prizes to the top four poets.
