Bogenrief must receive treatment to have sentence reconsidered

LE MARS, Iowa -- A judge has ordered that a treatment plan be prepared before reconsidering a Sutherland, Iowa, man's prison sentence.

Mark Douglas Bogenrief, 58, requested that a judge reconsider his 10-year prison sentence, which was handed down in July after he pleaded guilty to one count of third-degree sexual abuse.

Catholic Charities will prepare an assessment and a treatment plan for Bogenrief. Bogenrief's attorney requested that an alternate treatment facility closer to Bogenrief's residence in O'Brien County, Iowa, be explored.

The sexual abuse charge was filed after a 25-year-old woman told authorities Bogenrief sexually abused her while she was in her teens.

" It disgusts me that this is even being considered. How can he have even had a chance to recover from his "illness" in less than a year. I agree with putting the scum bag into treatment with Catholic Charities but he shouldn't be out on the streets yet. There's no way he could have recovered that fast and had time to evaluate his life. What he did was horrible and he needs to pay the price. There's no way I would trust him in my neighborhood...but then again I've never trusted that man! Sick, sick, sick!!!!!! "
