Wysong homer sparks Morningside

Morningside, outhit 10-5, still won the nightcap, 5-3, to earn a sweep of Dakota Wesleyan in a Great Plains Athletic Conference baseball doubleheader Saturday at Lewis and Clark Park.
The Mustangs, now 14-11 overall and 6-6 in the GPAC, won the opener, 7-5 after staving off a four-run Wesleyan rally in the top of the seventh.
In the second game, Tom Kohl and Lino Esparza each had a hit and two RBIs for the Mustangs, who bunched four of their runs in the first two innings. Dan Lipari (2-0), the second of three Morningside pitchers, earned the win working just a third of an inning and Eric Delich got his fifth save.
Gabe Shockman, working six innings, evened his record at 3-3 in getting in the pitching win in the opener. Shockman spaced three hits and struck out eight.
The Mustangs rapped nine hits in the victory with Kyle Smith and Nate Gomez each collecting two hits in a nine-hit attack. Jason Wysong walloped a three-run homer in the second inning for the Mustangs and Esparza had a double and two RBIs.
