SIOUX CITY -- The fourth annual Laugh Your Hat Off Dinner and "Fun" Raiser April 1 raised more than $10,000 to benefit the Community Action Agency's Crossroads Shelter for Homeless Women and Children.

The shelter provides transitional long-term housing and support services for women struggling to become independent.

Resident of the year award was given to Liz Kinney who spoke of her struggles as a single mother and how living at the Crossroads Shelter helped her get on her feet and become a self sufficient individual.

Also recognized was Connie Hansel, owner of Classique Closet which each year donates clothing valued at more than $8,000 to shelter residents. A certificate of appreciation was given to Dr. Tom Molstad representing the Sioux City Jaycees. The Crossroads Shelter was the benefactor of the Jaycees' 2007 Festival of Trees.

Urbie Urbanos, Lisa Urbanos, Robert and Jane Morrisey and Julie Vanderham were recognized for their volunteer work at the ARTSPLASH booth that raised more than $2,000 for the Crossroads Shelter in 2007.
