Time, date set for Democratic Senate debate

Posted: Tuesday, April 15, 2008
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- Two of the Democratic candidates for U.S. Senate have agreed on a time and date for their debate this month.

Nebraska Democratic Party spokesman Eric Van Horn says Scott Kleeb (kleb) and Tony Raimondo (rah-MON-doe) will respond to questions at 1 p.m. April 26 at the State Theatre in Lincoln. A reception will precede the debate at noon.

The event is being sponsored by the Lancaster County Democratic Party.

Kleeb is a Yale-educated former ranch hand who teaches history at Hastings College. He faces Raimondo, a longtime Columbus industrialist with extensive ties to the state's business community. Neither man has held public office, and each has until the May 13 primary to win over Nebraska Democrats.

Larry Marvin of Fremont and James Bryan Wilson of Lincoln are also running as Democrats.

The winner will likely face Republican Mike Johanns, a former governor and U.S. agriculture secretary, in the general election.
