SIOUX CITY -- Residents who want to go swimming, lob a tennis ball, participate in a sports league or attend free movies will have a variety of choices this summer as part of the programs offered by the city's Parks and Recreation Department.
Golf lessons will be offered at Green Valley Golf Course for children ages 5 through 13, Tennis lessons will be offered at the Lewis and Leif Erikson tennis courts. Youth Tee Ball for kids ages 4-7 will be offered, Geoff Hubbard, recreation superintendent, said Wednesday. The Riverside Aquatic Center will open Memorial Day weekend, with the rest of the swimming pools opening in mid June.
Everyone is invited to the free Movies in the Park, starting June 7, at the Grandview Park Bandshell. Movies will start around 9 p.m. Hubbard suggested movie-goers bring their own blankets and snacks.
In addition, Hubbard pointed out that WiFi service is available this summer at Grandview Park. Last year, the city worked in cooperation with sponsors of Saturday in the Park to provide that Internet service. The wireless zone is confined to the area around the bandshell and is available through October.
The 2008 Summer Fun & Action Guide is available at City Hall, the public libraries, the art center, public museum and the Long Lines Family Rec Center, 401 Gordon Drive. The information is available at www.sioux-city.org. Click on to the recreation services link.
