Lawsuit against Union College dismissed

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- A Lancaster County judge has dismissed a $3 million lawsuit against Union College.
The lawsuit was filed in 2005 by the family of a then-16-year-old who was photographed nude by an employee. The family has said the college was negligent in hiring and supervising Travis Lane, a former student who worked as a swim instructor and janitor from 2001 to 2005.
But District Judge Jeffre Cheuvront threw out the lawsuit this week, saying Lane had an excellent work record and the college was under no obligation to monitor his off-the-clock behavior.
Lane was fired after photos he had taken of the teen streaking surfaced.
He was sentenced in July 2006 to 60 days in jail for attempted possession of child pornography.
