SIOUX CITY -- Missouri River Historical Development Inc. awarded more than $282,000 in grants to 38 Woodbury County nonprofit organizations Tuesday at its 2008 annual Grant Program ceremony at the Betty Strong Encounter Center on the Missouri Riverfront.

MRHD is the nonprofit organization that holds the license for riverboat gaming in Woodbury County. Its funding is generated from an agreement between MRHD and Argosy Casino-Sioux City which allows Argosy to run a gaming operation in Woodbury County using MRHD's gaming license.

As part of the annual grant program, MRHD will match Argosy's scholarships for students at Briar Cliff University, Morningside College and Western Iowa Tech Community College for the 2008-2009 academic year.
