Storm Lake Library features polka program

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- Bring your appetite and dancing shoes today for the second of two cultural events this month at the Storm Lake Public Library.
"The Friends of the Storm Lake Public Library had been awarded an Iowa Arts Council grant for two cultural programs in May," said Elizabeth Huff, youth services librarian at the Storm Lake Public Library.
Polka will be featured today with festivities are from 2 to 4 p.m. Admission is free. The first one on Lao Traditions was held May 4.
Norman Hogrefe, Storm Lake, will explain polka's European history, its Midwest origins and the type of instruments that are played. Then the audience will be invited to dance, accompanied by Hogrefe and Roger Christensen of Storm Lake. German refreshments will be provided by the Friends organization and pastries will be provided by the adjacent Witter Gallery.
