Pottebaum, Sapp tied for third in IGA Four-Ball

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- Al Pottebaum of Le Mars and Sioux City Todd Sapp are tied for third place after the opening round of the 13th Iowa Golf Association Four-Ball Championship at Bent Tree Golf Club.

The duo shot 4-under-par 68 in windy conditions on Friday and trail the Open Division leaders by just two shots. Mike Ketchum and Grant Oswalt of Waukee are tied for first with Sam Billmeyer of Ankeny and Gene Elliott of Des Moines, each carding 6-under 66.

Pottebaum and Sapp are part of a four-way logjam at third place. One of the teams they're tied with are defending champions Nate Dunn and Justin Schulte of Manchester.

M.L. Petersen of Sioux City and Bret Taylor of Council Bluffs shot 1-under 71 and are tied for seventh. Troy Arends of Sioux Center and Bob Brummel of Orange City (73) are tied for 17th while Jared Kvidera and Scott Trembly Jr. of Sioux City (74) are tied for 20th.

In the Senior Division, Larry Franzen and Mike Pape of Sioux City trimmed two shots off par for 70 and are tied for seventh place. Ron Van Buskirk of Sioux City and Bill Dickens of Des Moines shot 76 and are tied for 21st.

Ron Brooks and Steve Ivanovich of West Des Moines set the pace in the Senior Division with a 66.

The final round in the 36-hole four-ball stroke competition is today.
