Woman arrested for BB gun shots

Posted: Sunday, June 01, 2008
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- A Des Moines woman has been arrested after allegedly opening fire with a BB gun, hitting her neighbor a nearby house and passing cars.

Police say Rebecca Coffield, 27, fired the BB gun from an apartment, hitting a man as he spoke to a 911 operator.

Police say the man, Brian Trapp, was in a side yard at a nearby when he heard the BB shots.

Neighbors told police they thought other BBs had allegedly struck a stop sign and an unoccupied home that was being remodeled.

Police say they confronted Coffield, who initially denied that anyone there owned a gun, but later admitted later that she had fired the shots and hidden the gun under a couch.

Coffield was released Friday after posting a $7,000 bond.
