Girl Scouts offers summer day camps

Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa is offering summer day camp opportunities in and around many of its local jurisdictional areas this summer. Each day camp runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m,, hosts a specific theme and includes all the fun of Girl Scouting.

June 12, Sheldon -- City Park, $ 6, Girl Olympics, Games and relay races. Make your own country's flag and make a torch. Must register by June 6.
June 13, Hawarden -- Oak Grove Park, $ 6, Back to Nature (Traditional), Learn fire building skills, outdoor cooking, hiking, crafts, outdoor games and songs. Must register by June 6.
June 17, Salix -- Snyder's Bend, $ 8, Back to Nature (Traditional), Learn fire building skills, outdoor cooking, hiking, crafts, outdoor games and fishing, pond study
June 18, Orange City -- Vets Park , $ 6, Just Us Girls, Dancing, scavenger hunt, hiking, crafts and games
June 19, Le Mars -- Cleveland Park, $ 8, Glamour Divas, Cheerleading, nails, makeup, outdoor games and songs, Hannah Montana skit and fashion show
June 20, Peterson -- Prairie Heritage Center, $ 6, Pioneer Days, Visit a sod house, take a hike and see the bison, create a pioneer-style craft
June 23, Correctionville -- Little Sioux Park, $6, Back to Nature (Traditional), Learn fire building skills, outdoor cooking, hiking, crafts, outdoor games and songs, fishing
June 25, Elk Point, S.D, -- City Park, $ 6, Just Us Girls, Dancing, scavenger hunt, hiking, crafts and games
June 26, Onawa -- Gaukel Park, $ 6, Just Us Girls, Dancing, scavenger hunt, hiking, crafts and games
July 9, Lawton -- Bethel Lutheran Church, $ 8, Glamour Divas, Cheerleading, nails, makeup, get your hair done, Hannah Montana skit and fashion show
July 16, Cherokee -- Spring Lake Park/Planetarium, $ 6, Ms. Mad Scientist, Science projects, experiments and visit the Planetarium at the Sanford Museum
July 21, Sioux City -- Riverside Park , $ 10, Survivor, test your skills with games, relays and contests.
July 22, Sioux City -- Leif Erickson Park, $ 10, Girl Olympics, Games, relay races and swimming. Make your own country's flag and make a torch.
July 23, South Sioux City, -- Scenic Park, $ 10, Just Us Girls, Dancing, scavenger hunt, hiking, crafts and games
July 24, Sioux City -- Bacon Creek Park, $ 7, Back to Nature (Traditional), Learn fire building skills, outdoor cooking, hiking, crafts, outdoor games and fishing
July 25, Sioux City -- Riverside Park, $ 10, C.S.I., Fingerprinting, DNA testing, bite prints, learn the ins-and-outs of being a detective.
In addition to local day camp sessions, two weeks of day camp sessions will be offered at the Girl Scout Camp, Joy Hollow, July 21-24 or Aug. 4-7. Day camp sessions are being offered to all girls entering first through sixth grade. All camp sessions include swimming at the camp pool, campcraft skill-building, outdoor activities, friends and much more. Transportation from the Girl Scout office in Sioux City to the Girl Scout camp is also available for these two weeks.
Summer resident camps are filling up, but, there are some spots still available. Summer camp staff positions are also still available for this camp season. If you are 18 or older, submit an application (found on the Web site www.girlscoutsiowa.org.
