GERING, Neb. (AP) -- A Gering couple has been awarded $1.2 million in a medical malpractice lawsuit they brought following the 2004 death of their 13-year-old son.
Scott and Coni Brandt sued after Ty Brandt died Sept. 26, 2004, from complications following surgery to remove his appendix.
The Brandts filed the lawsuit in Scotts Bluff County District Court against two doctors, the Western Surgical Group and Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. The parents say doctors were slow to respond to their son's deteriorating medical condition.
On Tuesday, the jury found former Scottsbluff surgeon Dr. Thomas White and the Western Surgical group negligent in the boy's death. Regional West and another doctor were not found liable by the jury.
