SIOUX CITY -- A skateboard competition set for Saturday isn't only about fun and prizes. It's also meant to raise money for Cook Park Skateboard Park additions and renovations, according to a release from the Sioux City Skateboard Association.
The all-day competition is open to the public and will include local food vendors, live music and a community awareness presentation. Prizes will be awarded in four divisions: grom (6 and younger), novice, amateur and advanced.
The 3rd annual Cook Street Skateboard Contest is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the skateboard park, in the 400 block of West Sixth Street. Registration is from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. and costs $10. Participants younger than 18 need a parent's signature. Forms are available online at http://skatesiouxcity.com/
Spectators get in for free, but sales of T-shirts and energy drinks will help raise money to expand the skate park.
For more information, call David Hall at 898-0601.
