Refinery may be delayed little by lawsuits

DAKOTA DUNES, S.D. (AP) -- Gov. Mike Rounds says opponents of a proposed oil refinery in Union County should not expect to create lengthy delays in the project by filing lawsuits against it.

Hyperion Resources of Dallas, Texas, has identified a site near Elk Point as a leading contender for the $10 billion refinery.

Union County voters approved a zoning change June 3 for the project.

However, opponents have vowed to continue their fight against the refinery.

Rounds says legal challenges will not drag it out for long.

He says South Dakota courts quickly dispose of cases that can take years in other states.

" To "ecarbine": just because YOU want it doesn't mean that it WILL happen either. PS: Good post. "

" If there is any money for financing this project why did Hyperion seek out federal loans? That have not publically said that they HAVE the financing. If they did they would have shared it in one of their 100's of fliers they sent out with their bogus claims during their campaign efforts before the vote. Besides who would want to invest in a project when there are major lawsuits involved(both against them and within their own company and family) "

" "Proping up the gorilla" is not progress in my book. It's a desperate attempt by our Governor who will push any idea, even if it's at the expense of 1,000's of people here who don't want this. "

" To Alsen resident:
Hilarious! You just go right along believing that this is all honky dory. Start doing some research on your own and you will find that it's more cost effective to add-on to a refinery than to build one from scratch. If you were looking to invest in a refinery you would invest in the Arizona one that is closer to breaking ground. And that refinery is having problems raising the money needed. "
