ELK POINT, S.D. -- Save Union County Committee, a group opposed to the proposed Hyperion Resources oil refinery, Friday morning released the preliminary list of the subcommittees it is forming for the next round of the fight.
Union County voters in the June 3 primary election approved the rezoning of more than 3,000 acres for Texas-based company Hyperion Resources to build a refinery and energy center.
According to SUCC co-chairman Ed Cable, the group's focus will be on establishing the subcommittees and on making the public aware of the next steps in its efforts to overturn the zoning and otherwise keep the $10 billion project from advancing.
Cable said SUCC will hold more meetings in the county, and interested people can contact him through the organization's Web site, Saveunioncounty.com. "Our organization will continue to be focused on developing and distributing information to the public relative to the details of the proposed refinery and IGCC Center, as it becomes available," the release said.
"We remain committed to our opposition to the recent actions of our government bodies and/or officials," Cable said, "and will continue our dialogue with the public in the tri-state area relative to the proposed project."
