Kerrey helps Kleeb raise money for Senate bid

Posted: Wednesday, June 25, 2008
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) -- After deciding against his own U.S. Senate bid, Bob Kerrey is helping fellow Democrat Scott Kleeb raise money for his race.

An e-mail from Kerrey, circulated by the Kleeb campaign, asks for donations. Kerrey says the pundits say Kleeb can't win against Republican opponent Mike Johanns.

But Kerrey says he's living proof anything can happen in Nebraska politics.

Kerrey, president of The New School university in New York, considered running for the Senate seat that is open because Republican Chuck Hagel isn't seeking re-election.

But Kerrey decided against running, citing family and unfinished plans at The New School.

Kerrey served as Nebraska governor from 1983-1987, then as a U.S. Senator from Nebraska from 1989-2001.
