Tickets still available for Swift, Diamond

By Lynn Zerschling Journal staff writer | Posted: Saturday, June 28, 2008
SIOUX CITY -- Additional tickets have been released for country star Taylor Swift's concert Sunday night at the Tyson Events Center.

Dennis Gan, executive director of the city's Events Facilities Bureau, told the board Friday that he expected 7,000 fans -- mostly teenagers to attend. He credited the promoter, Police Productions of St. Charles, Mo., for booking her concert in Sioux City.

Gann said tickets are available for the July 22 Neil Diamond concert at the Tyson and that the promoter has released additional tickets.

Board member Kevin Kjeldseth said in May the box office sold more than 15,000 tickets and took in $476,000. Those tickets were sold for Sioux City events and did not include ticket sales to out-of-town events sold through the box office.

Mike Collett, financial officer, reported that bureau should have a budget surplus for the first time since 1983. Part of the good news can be attributed to payments from Distinctive Gourmet, which holds the city's food and beverage contract.

"Our sales are right where we were last year at this time, but our margins are dwindling a little bit," Distinctive Gourmet manager Mark Wisniewski, said. "We may need to raise our prices a little bit."

Increases in gas, corn and wheat prices have raised the price of food from vendors.
