Shameful actions

Posted: Sunday, June 29, 2008
SIOUX CITY -- I didn't see either President Bush or John McCain filling sandbags, or appealing to online campaign supporters to give to the relief effort, or making any other effort than to make a speech and mouth empty words of "comfort."

This was just another opportunity for the Republican demagogues to show up for a photo op -- remember McCain promising "never again" another debacle like Katrina. But where was he and the president when Katrina hit? In Arizona, eating cake for McCain's birthday.

Meanwhile, McCain has voted against extending unemployment benefits for Katrina victims, and other packages meant to provide relief to the victims - all bills were introduced either by bipartisan or Democratic effort.

Republican council members in New Orleans have destroyed repairable housing in the Lower 9th, while security Tazered citizens whose homes were at stake who were trying to exercise their rights to witness the hearing and add their voices to the debate.

" Pat on the back for Obama for filling a sandbag or two I congradulate him. However If John McCain was to fill some he would have dressed more appropriate and stayed alot longer. Give Obama a minute or two to fill twenty sandbags in umteen seconds I can garuntee He would have been doubleminded about that type of campaign. "

" Yeah lets give obama a pat on the back for filling a bag or two. At leats we didnt have bunch of people complaining about a non compliance of emergency help or looting. People left on time and heeded the warning.
See what happens when we do things for ourselves! Give him a minute or two to fill twenty bags in umteen seconds and you got yourself a double minded I will think twice about this type of campaign. At leats if John McCain would have contributed he would have stayed a lot longer and wore some clothes fit for the job. "

" Deanne, I agree with Tom T on the point that you are not the only one with anything "of worth" to add to the conversation, just because you don't agree with what other people are saying. Also, I don't believe that you came from the 9th Ward either, so therefore anything you say about that topic is a moot point. And as far as filling us all in on what you did during these times of disaster, I would think you would love to let everyone know how you helped, seeing as though you see fit to judge what everyone else's actions were during those times. I wouldn't think you would want to throw stones from your glass house? "

" Deanne: Everybody gets the point...The endless point is that the far left and the far right will take every opportunity to try to tear down the other side. In foreign countries, aid provided by our country says "USAid" or something like that...I suppose we're now getting to the point in this country when supplies and food are sent to disaster areas within the US, that it will be marked that it is supplied by the Democratic Party...Every disaster is getting politicized, it's sickening. So, thanks for your contribution to this pathetic trend. "

" Tom T...So instead of commenting on the points raised in the letter, thereby providing worthwhile conversation, you'd rather attack the writer with irrelevant statements. and you find that productive? "
