South Sioux drama group presents Elvis-inspired musical

Although the title sounds like the biography of the King of Rock, a production by the South Sioux City Drama Boosters is a fictional romp that incorporates aspects of Shakespeare, "Rent" and ABBA.

"All Shook Up" is a jukebox musical that delves into the incredible catalogue of music that Elvis Presley made famous.

"Roustabout," Chad (Colin Morgan) surfaces in a midwestern town on his motorcycle in 1955. Female mechanic, Natalie (Amanda Foxhoven) is love-struck at first sight, but Chad focuses on Miss Sandra (Rachael Heisterkamp), the museum curator, who is bowled over when presented with a Shakespearean sonnet by Ed , who is really Natalie disguised as a man in order to get closer (like a pal) to Chad.

Add to the confusion, Dennis (Nick Anderson), a nervous nerd who fancies Natalie. Lorraine (Annika Kolbo) and Dean (Brandon Hanson) are two other young lovers. And naturally, there are adults who try to bring some semblance of sanity to the goings-on: Natalie's father (Charlie Morgan), Lorraine's mother (Jaci Buttermore), Mayor Matilda (Megan Morgan) and Sheriff Earl (Marcus Langseth).

Written by Joe Dipietro, "All Shook Up" -- like "Rent" based on "La Boheme" -- combines elements of Shakespeare's "As You Like It" and "Twelfth Night" to provide the foundation to rap Elvis' songs around, much like the songs of ABBA make up the story of "Mama Mia."

"That's the appeal of this show," said director Ron Foxhoven,. "Everything is 'Elvis,' put to a story line."
