pill would change things

SERGEANT BLUFF -- Seventeen pregnant teenagers may have formed a "pregnancy pact" -- or not. But, the "not" doesn't refer to the pregnancies -- those are "for sure." Comedian Ron White is fond of saying, "You can't fix stupid" -- apparently he must know these girls.

It's apparently far too late in our "enlightened society" to expect our young people to have moral convictions which would prevent them from behaving like rodents in heat. But, after four decades or so of having "THE PILL", it wouldn't seem to be too much to ask that young "ladies" be taught how to swallow a pill once a day. Oops, I forgot, "You can't fix stupid."

So it's probably time to work on the other half of the stupidity equation. The half that thrives on testosterone and subscribes to the creed that says, "Sow your wild oats and pray for crop failure." The half that hasn't come to grips with the absolute certainty of parenthood identification via the magic of DNA testing. No escaping parental responsibility, Bucko -- you're on the hook for the next 20 or so years to take care of the "oats crop," like it or not.

Help is on the way! The male birth control pill, patch and/or injection are nearly ready for the market. I'll be pretty surprised if the unintended teen pregnancy rate doesn't drop almost to zero immediately following this product distribution.

Of course the hard core feminists will go berserk. A woman has the sole custody of her body and all of a sudden her ovaries will be put in a lock-box and Bubba will have the key. Planned Parenthood might go out of business since abortion rates will tumble. So guys, eat smart pills while you wait for the real PILL to arrive at the pharmacies. Don't count on the "fairer sex" to be fair when it comes to your procreative future. Use the head God put on your shoulders and remember, "If you drink, don't park -- accidents cause people." I don't think that a male birth control pill is going to solve problems like you think it will, I cant see teenage boys wanting to deal with the side effects of birth control pills and such like women have for years. One day, men will have to put their money where their mouths are and prove to CEOs everywhere that the new methods are really going to make a profit. If they want them. Until then, they have a lot of explaining to do regarding their complaints on TV about paying child support for their unwanted children, while staying silent about better male contraception. (Remember, every method has a failure rate, so each partner has to use at least one method.)

" As a teacher, I am surprised at the number of pregnancies that are planned by both sides. They want a baby for attention and the purpose of having someone love them. When I discuss the cost, etc. of having children with these students(I have two babies in diapers)they assure me it will be paid, either by parents or government agencies. Sad! "
