No. 1 Cherokee gears for post-season

Cherokee opens defense of its Class 2A state baseball title Saturday when the Braves put a 24-1 record on the line in a first-round 2A district tournament contest in Cherokee (7 o'clock) against Battle Creek-Ida Grove.
In the first game at Cherokee at 5 o'clock, HInton tangles with Westwood.
In the latest Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association rankings released Thursday, Cherokee was ranked No. 1 and Davenport Assumption No. 2. Cherokee defeated Assumption in last year's state title game.
Iowa Mennonite was ranked No. 1 in Class 1A, Manchester West Delaware was No. 1 in Class 3A and Johnston held the No. 1 spot in Class 4A with Sioux City North second .
Denison-Schleswig is sixth in 3A and Storm Lake eighth and Altan and Clay Central-Everly were sixth and seventh, respectively, in 1A.
Post-season play in Class 1A, 3A and 4A begins next week.
