Interim pastor
Members of Morningside Presbyterian Church, 4327 Morningside Ave., will welcome their new interim pastor, the Rev. Donald Botic, during the worship service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Botic and his wife, Roxanne, reside in Fremont, Neb.
He has served as pastor and associate pastor for congregations in Nebraska, Ohio, Colorado and Wyoming. He has been serving as an interim pastor in Nebraska for the last five years and has assisted congregations in developing new ministries in various areas by recognizing needs within the congregation and the community. A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Botic is a graduate of Tarkio (Mo.) College and Dubuque (Iowa) Theological Seminary.
Sunday's service will include the celebration of Holy Communion and the installation and/or ordination of elders and deacons.
Elders to be installed are Cathie Bishop, Laurinda Finken and Jeremiah Thompson. Deacons to be installed are Elgerd and Marlyn Arnett, Stuart and Bonnie Oliver, Peggy Reid and Merlin and Minda Thompson.
Founders Day event Sunday
Mother Grace Naylor and her husband, George W. Naylor, founders of Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, will be honored during the 42nd annual Founders Day celebration at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the church at 610 Center St.
Antioch Church of God in Christ in Omaha will be the guest church. The guest speaker will be Pastor Taylor of Antioch Church of God in Christ.
James Mosley is pastor of Tabernacle Church of God in Christ which was founded in 1966.
Food & Fun features singer
The weekly Food & Fun series at Grace United Methodist Church, 1735 Morningside Ave., will feature singer/songwriter Jeff Rohlwing on Wednesday.
A light meal of hamburgers and hot dogs, salads and desserts will be served at 5:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall with the program to follow.
Rohlwing will present a program of piano and guitar music characterized from updated traditional hyms to contemporary ones.
School accepts new students
St. Paul's Lutheran School is accepting new students for the 2008-2009 school term.

Vacation Bible School
Whitfield United Methodist Church, 1319 W. Fifth St., invites all children ages pre-kindergarten through fifth grade to be a part of the excitement at the Vacation Bible School, "Beach Party: Surfin' Through the Scriptures." Hours of the school will be 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 21 through Aug. 1. at the church. To register or to obtain more information, call the church office at 252-3261.
Immanuel Lutheran Church, 315 Hamilton Blvd., will host a Summer Day Camp from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. daily July 14 through 17. The camp is for youngsters who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade. Theme of the free camp is "Rainforest Adventure." Lunch will be provided. For additional information, call 255-4729.
A summer Vacation Bible School that's all about service will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 19th and Nebraska streets. A free-will offering meal will be served at 5:30 each evening. For more information, visit the Web site at www.siouxcityfirst.com. No pre-registration is required to attend.
Baha'is observe death of Bab
SIOUX CITY -- The Siouxland Baha'i community will join the Baha'is worldwide Wednesday in observing the anniversary of the martyrdom of the Bab, one of the central figures of the Baha'i faith. Mirza Ali Muhammad, known as the Bab, was the herald of the Baha'i faith. He was executed by firing squad on July 9, 1850, in Tabriz, Iran, while thousands looked on. More than 20,000 believers in Iran had already been killed for their faith.
Siouxland Baha'is will meet at 12:30 p.m. at the home of Alan and Marie Scheffer, 217 Paxton St., for a devotional observance followed by a community lunch.
VBS Day camp July 26
SERGEANT BLUFF -- Vacation Bible School Day camp will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 26 at Spirit of Life Lutheran Church in Sergeant Bluff. Registration with parents will be at 9:30. A sharing time with parents is scheduled at 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Call the church and leave a message with name, number of attendees and phone number prior to the daycamp.
Church rummage sale July 11-12
SIOUX CITY -- Faith Lutheran Church, 3101 Hamilton Blvd., will hold a big church rummage sale July 11 and 12. The July 11 hours are 4 to 7 p.m. On July 12, the hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Supplemental funds are provided by Thrivant Financial for Lutherans.
