KTIV, HyVee raise funds for flood relief
Posted: Sunday, July 06, 2008
SIOUX CITY -- KTIV NewsChannel 4 and HyVee have raised a total of $44,566 for American Red Cross Flood Relief.
"We are grateful to KTIV and those in the media for helping to spread our message and to the people of the community who have supported the Red Cross effort to help those in need," said Tammy Lee, executive director for the Siouxland Chapter. "The money raised will help our friends and neighbors across the state begin to clean up their homes and recover their lives."
More than 5,000 volunteers from the American Red Cross are on the ground in the affected counties, providing assistance to those impacted by the floods.
"We are truly impressed with the generous response we received from Siouxland, both during our one-day fundraising blitz on June 18 and with donations continuing to come in, " said KTIV station manager Dave Madsen. "The response from the community was outstanding. We have shown a lot of the images of eastern Iowa on our newscasts.
"While it's our job to report what's going on, we also felt it was our responsibility to do something to help. I'm delighted that so many KTIV employees and Red Cross volunteers were on site at the HyVee stores the day of the fund drive to accept donations."
The funds raised by KTIV will be used by the Red Cross to provide support and assistance to those affected. Red Cross disaster assistance is free of charge and includes everything from food, shelter and clothing; home clean up assistance; temporary housing; emergency medical assistance, such as prescription medication replacement, and help with eye glasses, dentures, hearing aid replacement; and mental health services.
